What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is usually known as diabetes mellitus. It is a class of common endocrine illnesses characterized by insistently elevated blood sugar levels. Diabetes results from inadequate insulin production by the pancreas or improper insulin utilization by the body’s cells. Diabetes, if left untreated, leads to many health complications. An estimated 1.5 million fatalities yearly are caused by untreated or inadequately controlled diabetes.

For the majority of diabetic cases, there is no universally acknowledged treatment. Instances of insulin replacement therapy are most frequently used to treat type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes treatment can complete with lifestyle changes and anti-diabetic drugs like semaglutide and metformin. Ordinary resolution of gestational diabetes occurs soon after delivery.

When these occur, the body cannot transport sugar from the blood into your cells. Blood sugar levels may grow as a result of this. One of your primary energy sources is glucose, a sugar in your blood. Sugar comes up in your blood due to insulin deficiency or insulin resistance. Health issues may result from this.

 Diabetes Types

Type 1 kind of diabetes

The body mistakenly attacking itself is thought to be the etiology of type 1 diabetes. This reaction breaks your body’s production of insulin. Type 1 diabetes affects 5–10% of adults with diabetes.

Type 2 kind of diabetes

Your body struggles to properly utilize insulin in type 2 diabetes properly, making maintaining normal blood sugar levels difficult. The majority of diabetics (90–95%) are type 2. It takes many years to develop, and adults are typically diagnosed with it (but more and more kids, teenagers, and young adults are as well).

Gestational Diabetes

An individual gets gestational diabetes through pregnancy when their sensitivity to insulin decreases. Gestational diabetes affects 1-12% of pregnancies each year, as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The problem is more likely to develop in people who are overweight before getting pregnant.

What Are The Symptoms Of Diabetes?

Symptoms of diabetes are;

  • increased thirst and urination
  • enlarged hunger
  • fatigue
  • blurred vision
  • coldness or burning in the feet or hands
  • eruptions that do not heal
  • mysterious weight loss

Type 1 diabetes symptoms can appear within a few weeks. Type 2 diabetes symptoms frequently appear gradually over many years and might be so subtle that you might not notice them. This diabetes affects many persons who exhibit no symptoms. Some people don’t get diagnosed with the illness until they start experiencing diabetes-related health issues, like blurred vision or heart issues.
